John F. Copeland

John Felton &uot;Mickey&uot; Copeland, 73, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at Obici Hospital.
A native of Nansemond County, he was a son of the late John James and Isabell Lowe Copeland. A Navy veteran, he was retied after 27 years with Hobbs Engineering; He was also a Baptist and a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Marjorie Turner Copeland; two daughters, Marjorie Marie Matthews and husband, Delray, of Carrsville, and Joann C. Cherry and husband, Darick, of Suffolk; one beloved granddaughter, Taylor Nicole Cherry; five sisters, Vivian Winborne, Evelyn C. Jones, Jeanette C. Carr, and Sarah C. Summerlin, all of Suffolk, and Mildred C. Hedgbeth of Zuni.
Mickey was predeceased by a brother, James Edward Copeland, and two sisters, Lessie McClenny and Clara Alberger.
The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Holland Cemetery with the Rev. J.B. Matthews officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggest memorials be made to American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, Va. 23851.
