Mount Olive College guard Andrea Jones and forward Tamara Nesmith both earned second-team honors as the 2011-12 All-Conference Carolinas Women’s Basketball Team was announced Friday. The Trojans have had at least two all-conference players in six of the last seven years.

Jones, a 5-9 junior from Suffolk, earned all-conference honors for the second year in a row. Jones ranks sixth in the conference with 15.3 points per game and seventh with 2.0 three-point field goals per game. She also ranks 12th in the conference with 1.9 steals per game.

Jones scored in double figures in 23 of 28 games, including six contests with at least 20 points. She scored a season-high 24 points in December in the Trojans’ 73-69 win over Saint Augustine’s. Jones also scored 16 points in Mount Olive’s 63-58 win over Erskine Tuesday in the first round of the 2012 Conference Carolinas Women’s Basketball Tournament.

She had two games this season with a career-high seven steals.

Mount Olive finished the season with a 19-9 record, coming within one win of its fourth 20-win season and fourth appearance in the Conference Carolinas Tournament championship game in the last five years. The Trojans spent a week in the NCAA II Southeast Region Top 10 and finished second in the Conference Carolinas East Division.

Suffolk’s Ashton Moore came off the bench and scored five points, including The Citadel’s only three-pointer in a first-round tournament loss by the Cadets to Western Carolina.

Western Carolina advances to the second round to meet two-time defending tournament champion Wofford in the 2012 Southern Conference Tournament.

The Cadets were led by Mike Groselle, who scored 21 points and snagged six rebounds in the loss.
