Police on Thursday arrested a woman and charged her with animal cruelty after a dead dog was found in her care in October.
Christina Renee Jones, 35, faces two counts of animal cruelty. She was indicted by the grand jury in February.
Animal Control was called to the house in the 100 block of Cedar Street on Oct. 31 on a report of a dead dog, city spokeswoman Debbie George said Friday. They found two pit bulls at the residence. One was dead, she said. The other was alive, but both appeared emaciated.
Animal Control seized both dogs. A necropsy on the dead dog revealed it had suffered form a turned GI tract, in addition to being severely malnourished.
The second dog was examined by a veterinarian and was determined to be severely malnourished and suffering from heartworms, George said.
“That dog was ultimately euthanized due to a combination of health and behavioral issues,” George said.
The home where the dogs were found was that of a relative of Jones, but the woman indicated the dogs were hers and she was the sole caregiver, George said.
