Mrs. Delia D. Cook, 88, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, in Springfield.
She was a longtime resident of Suffolk.
Mrs. Cook was the wife of the late Simon Alfred Cook Sr.
Mrs. Cook, a graduate of Elizabeth City State University, served as a teacher in the Isle of Wight County and Nansemond County/Suffolk school systems for more than 30 years. After her retirement, she served as a tutor of students. While living in Suffolk, she was a member of the Alphabets, Ladies Auxiliary, and various community organizations. She was an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Also, she served as a Girl Scout leader.
A son, Mr. Simon Alfred Cook Jr. of Suisum City, Calif.; sister-in-law, Mrs. Susie Green Darden of Petersburg; a niece, Mrs. Annie Darden Crump of Raleigh, N.C.; two goddaughters, Mrs. Marjorie Almond and Dr. Margaret E.M. Tolbert; two great-nieces; one great-grand-niece and nephew, cousins, and extended family and friends survive Mrs. Cook.
The funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in Crocker Funeral Home. Interment will be in Southview Cemetery, Franklin.
The wake will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, in Crocker Funeral Home, 900 E. Washington St.
Family and friends wishing to join Mrs. Cook’s relatives prior to the service should gather at the home of Mr. Samuel Almond and his family at 225 N. Division St. in Suffolk.
