Warriors beat Maury and other tourney action

Nansemond River High School’s boys basketball team trounced Maury High School in the first round of the Eastern Region tournament on Monday.

The Warriors won 72-49 during the game in front of a packed gymnasium at King’s Fork High School.

Nansemond River now advances to play Hampton High School on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Norfolk Scope.

King’s Fork High School’s girls basketball team also won big Monday night, beating Churchland High School 54-34. The team will face Princess Anne High School at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Norfolk Scope.

In the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools tournament, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy lost Monday to Norfolk Academy in the second round.
