The city recently purchased the Kilby Shores Water Co. and will be switching users from the community well to city water at 10 a.m. Feb. 6.

The process, initially scheduled for today, will cause a temporary disruption of service for users, said Al Moor, the city’s director of public utilities.

Because residents weren’t notified of the change until late this week, the process was delayed, Moor said. Residents received hand-delivered notices Thursday advising them of the delay.

The notices advised that kidney dialysis patients and owners of fish and aquatic animals would need to take special precautions with the water’s different purification system, chloramine disinfection. Specific information was included with the original notices.

The public works department will be forwarding an information package on the operation of the city water system, Moor said. The packet will include information on the city’s bi-monthly utility bills and connection and availability charges.

An informational meeting is also being held at 7 p.m. Feb. 10 in Kilby Shores Elementary School. For further details, call 255-2247.
