A Suffolk man will serve four years in jail after pleading guilty to carnal knowledge of a minor.

John Walter Cobb, 23, entered the pleas in November. Eight charges of indecent liberties with a minor and other charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor were not prosecuted.

Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Marie Walls said Cobb entered into a sexual relationship with the daughter of a family friend “who had taken him in, because he couldn’t live with his wife.”

The girl was 13 when the events took place June through August of last year, Walls said. He was 22 at the time.

Cobb pleaded guilty to five counts of carnal knowledge of a minor. He was sentenced to 10 years on each charge with six years suspended. However, because the judge ordered the sentences to be served concurrently, Cobb will spend only about four years in prison.
