Herbert R. Lane

Herbert Raye Lane, 72, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, in Winchester Medical Center, Winchester.
Lane was born on Nov. 28, 1931, in Ryland, Chowan County, N.C., and was the son of the late Herbert and Lillie Phthisic Lane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Amber Lanette Lane.
The retired owner of Lane Motor Express, for the past several years he enjoyed his mountain home in Mathias, W.Va., and was an antique John Deer tractor collector and dealer.
He was a member of Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Wendy W. Lane; his three children, Melody Lane White of Tyner; Kevin Brent Lane of Ryland; and Holly Lane Ferguson; eight grandchildren; his sister, Juanita Lane Byrum of Carrsville; two stepchildren, Tammy Henderson and Paul White; and five step-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Piney Woods Friends Meeting, Belvidere, by the Rev. Ron Parr. Burial will follow in the family plot at the church.
Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, N.C., and all other times at the residence on Ryland Road.
The memorial service will be held later in Mathias.
