Many of you with computers have likely read an e-mail urging everyone not to buy gasoline today. The theory is that if all Americans did so, oil companies would quickly feel the loss in the pocketbooks.

An interesting idea at best. But if that were truly possible, why haven’t people done so years before? Because the reality is that, when you think about it, one day won’t affect gasoline prices. You would have to buy fuel eventually, so who’s hurt? No one.

If you really want to save money at the pumps, then start by using public transportation, forming car pools, walking more, driving less, and tuning up your automobile so that it operates more efficiently.

As for the malicious e-mails, just delete them.
