The three-day Camp Superkids came to a close Friday at Turlington Woods School.

Sponsored by Obici Hospital and the American Lung Association, Camp Superkids serves children ages 8-12 who are suffering from asthma.

The theme of this year’s camp was &uot;Flight of the Navigator.&uot; Children enjoyed various activities such as arts and crafts, group games and special guests. They also learned how an asthma episode can be triggered, how to handle an asthma episode, and how to manage their condition through medication.

The camp director, Lucy Drewry, RN, of Obici’s Educational Services Department planned all the activities and snacks around the camp theme.

Volunteer staff members included health professionals such as physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and recreation therapists. They made it possible to offer a summer camp experience for children who otherwise would be unable to go to camp.

Other goals/benefits of the camp: educate parents; give children a camp experience with peers so they fit in and develop supportive friendships, according to an Obici Hospital spokeswoman. In addition, each child leaves camp with an individualized asthma plan.

Camp Supertots, for children ages 4-7, was held July 20.
