One little piggy in Suffolk is trotting all the way to her new home.
Eggs, a 1-year-old potbellied pig that was picked up by Suffolk Animal Control in October after she was found abandoned, was adopted Friday by a family that owns a farm in the city, according to a city news release.
Susan Wendt, who took care of Eggs while she was awaiting adoption, said the family decided to adopt the pig as a companion for a goat.
“They had two goats, and one passed away,” she said. “So they wanted to find a pasture mate for the other goat, because they are herd animals — they like being in a group.”
Eggs has been with Wendt since Thanksgiving. She said the pig is friendly and very playful, like a dog, and is very vocal around people.
Wendt said the farm family wasn’t the only ones who were looking to make Eggs a part of their home.
In fact, she said, Animal Control employees told her they had seven interested parties, whom they considered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Wendt said she already misses having Eggs’ big personality in her barn.
“I went there today, and I was kind of sad she wasn’t there to greet me,” she said.
But she believes the family that took Eggs is a good fit and will make a happy home for the pig.
The family also adopted a rooster that was staying at Animal Control. The rooster subsequently was named Bacon, according to a press release from the city.
