Oakland Elementary School students will be helping Florida school children impacted by Hurricane Charley last month.
The Oakland PTA is organizing a caring and sharing project to help Neil Armstrong Elementary School students in Port Charlotte, Fla. The school received so much damage that classes have been moved to another elementary school on a flex schedule.
Collections boxes are being placed in Oakland’s lobby for school supplies, clothing and toiletries. The PTA is asking the help of businesses to ship the items to Florida around Sept. 17.
Call Oakland’s principal, Dr. Suzanne Rice, at 925-5505 for more information. Meanwhile, the Suffolk chapter of the American Red Cross is still accepting contributions to help the hurricane victims. Call 539-6645 for information.
