Brandi Novak and Kristi Dwyer just keep making King’s Fork field hockey history.

One day after the two combined on the goal that brought Suffolk’s newest school its first ever victory, as Novak sent an assist to Dwyer with 1:55 left to defeat host Hampton 2-1, Novak had a goal and assist and Dwyer a goal as the Lady Bulldogs grabbed their first shutout and first Southeastern District victory, a 6-0 defeat of host Deep Creek on Wednesday.

&uot;Yesterday was a hard game with a lot of physical action,&uot; said Dwyer, who also scored the first goal in school history in a 2-1 loss to Hickory on Sept. 1. &uot;This was the game that we’ve come the most as a team. We were all really positive the entire time.&uot;

Novak, who scored the other two goals in the Hampton victory, sent a corner stroke to Whitney Witt near the outside of the circle just over five minutes into the game. Witt reared back and golfed the ball toward the net, where it rolled up the keeper’s leg. As Novak bolted forward, the ball slipped into the left side of the net. Novak scored her own goal just over a minute later.

At the 15-minute mark, Novak smacked another corner shot to Witt. She passed the ball across the center to Angela Simmons, who sent it to Ashley Pinzon on the left. Pinzon flipped in the ball.

Another Lady Hornet penalty gave Witt a stroke outside the circle. The keeper kicked it away to the right, where Novak was waiting. Novak tipped it between the keeper’s feet, and it went off to the left. Catie Dugan raced forward and score her team’s fourth and final goal of the half.

Nearly three minutes into the second period, Kelsey Ewell hit a free shot into the center of the circle to a wide-open Dwyer, who turned around, took a few steps forward, and sent it into the left side of the net.

Mary Rose finished out the scoring with 16 seconds left in the contest, taking an assist from Ewell.

The offense helped goalkeeper Ashley Payton put her own entry in the history books, as she became the first Lady Bulldog to record a complete-game shutout.

&uot;Truthfully, it was fun,&uot; said Payton, who fought off seven corner shots. &uot;It was fun that it didn’t go in. I was afraid I’d let the team down if the ball got back to me.&uot;

The Lady Hornets have one more &uot;first&uot; hurdle to cover – their first home victory. Their next shot comes against Oscar Smith on Oct. 6.

Over at Oscar Smith, Nansemond River also raced to a shutout win, as Jessica Watahovich, Katelyn Yandle and Heather Horton scored two goals each in an 11-0 win. Heather Proffit, Ashley Aston, Sara Chambers, Erica White and Cristina Valdevisio also scored.

Yandle also had two assists, as did Aston and Natalie Sims. Horton, Lindley Theroux and Erin Rice had one each, and

Yandle and Amber Shaffer had the shutout in goal. The Lady Warriors next play Sept. 29 at Great Bridge.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy grabbed its first win on Tuesday afternoon,

defeating Norfolk Collegiate 2-1. Courtney White and Elyse Edwards scored off assists by Olivia White and Abby Adkins. The Lady Saints head to Cape Henry today.
