News-Herald should focus on positive news of our community

I specifically subscribe to the Suffolk News-Herald because of it’s provincial emphasis. I followed with interest the recent changes along those lines and by and large approve. However, I’ve noticed that there’s a fair consistency in the lead off article on the front page – that coveted above the fold space – being bad news like todays &uot;Sex Offender Gets 20 years.&uot;
Why start off with that? Why not emphasize the good and positive first and foremost?
On the same page but farther down, are &uot;Suffolk Public Schools celebrate Grandparents’ Week&uot; and &uot;Mayor paints bright picture of downtown&uot; along with &uot;Suffolk foundation helps children in need.&uot;
I’d much rather start out on positive notes like these than be hit with the bad and the ugly right off.
I am a firm believer that we often get what we expect and see what we’re used to seeing.. Leading off with the positive accomplishments of our city will help us all expect and find more positives. That will lift us all.
