Georgia W. Clark

Georgia W. Clark, 87, a resident of Beverly Manor Nursing Home in Portsmouth, Virginia entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 1, 2004. Mrs. Clark was born on May 2, 1917 in Holland, Virginia to the late &uot;Uncle&uot; Henry and Arie Bell Williams. She was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Suffolk. Mrs. Clark was a graduate of Nansemond County Training School and Virginia Theological Seminary and College.

A native of Holland, Virginia, Mrs. Clark relocated to Brooklyn, New York in 1955. She retired from the United States Post Office after twenty-five years of service as a Postal Clerk. Mrs. Clark’s source of pride was that she was never late, nor missed a day of scheduled work in twenty-five years. Mrs. Clark lived in New York for forty-four years before returning to Virginia in 1999. During that same year, she became incapacitated which necessitated her move to Beverly Manor Nursing Home of Portsmouth.

Throughout her life Mrs. Clark enjoyed sewing, word puzzles, travel to foreign countries, finding four leaf clovers and family life. Her quilting received recognition in the New York metropolitan area through an exhibit of her work at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, as well as television and newspaper.

Mrs. Clark is survived by her brother, Ernest (Helen) of Portsmouth, Virginia; three sisters, Mrs. Lyda Lee Wythe and Mrs. Ella M. Sabb (Wesley) of Brooklyn, New York and Mrs. Janis Holland of Sardis, Georgia. Although Mrs. Clark had no biological children, she often took a maternal role with a host of nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory, especially Ernestine and Edwin, whom they regard as a second mother. In addition, there are cousins, extended family and friends who have been blessed by her presence in their lives.

A visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday in Peebles Funeral Home, Suffolk. A funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Joseph Goode at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Suffolk, Virginia. Internment will be in Mt. Sinai Cemetery. The body will be taken from Peebles F. H. to the Church at 11 a.m.

The family would like to thank the staff of Beverly Manor Nursing Home Portsmouth and Dr. Niwar Bhowmik for their care and concern for Mrs. Clark during her time of illness.
