Emma Moore

Emma Zamata Moore, 92, beloved mother, teacher, motivator and active participant in the community, passed away Nov-ember 15, 2004 in Columbia, S.C. where she lived with her daughter Joann Thompson.
Born June 4, 1911 in Early County, Georgia, she was the oldest daughter of Byrd Reynolds and Ella Johnson. She was educated at Albany State Teachers College and Elizabeth City State Teachers College. A resident of Suffolk for more than 60 years, she taught school at Nansemond County Training School and Southwestern High School for more than 45 years.
She accepted Christ at an early age at Friendship Baptist Church, Blakely, Ga. Later in life she became a member of the Bahai Faith and was an active member of the Local Spiritual Assembly of Suffolk.
She is survived by daughters Dr. Joann Thompson (Willie) of Columbia, S.C. and Neophia Ricketts of Jersey City, N.J. and sons Lt. Col Henry Moore of Richmond, and William Moore, Jr. of Atlanta, Ga; and by sisters Rose Odom of Tampa, Fl., Ella Mae Green of Lakeland, Fl, and Sarah McCray of Miami, Fl. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
The funeral will be held Friday, November 19, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Crocker Funeral Home Suffolk, followed by the interment at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing will be held at Crocker Funeral Home between the hours of 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2004.
