Suffolk co-op officers meet

W. N. Campbell, of the head office in Richmond, told Directors of Southern States Suffolk Cooperative gathered in quarterly session in Peanut City Inn Thursday night of the gravity of the fertilizer situation.

&uot;Anyone needing fertilizer for spring use had better obtain it from any possible source and store it in the barn as soon as possible,&uot; he said.

Director’s voted to install a line-spreading service for convenience of the approximately 4,000 customers of the local branch cooperative.

Purchase of equipment for this service which would correct sold acidity might be accomplished in time to begin the planned program by January 1, W. O. Jones, manager of the Suffolk store.

AAF seeking former vets

In an effort to obtain the latest address of approximately 2,500,000 former Army Air Forces personnel, AAF headquarters has distributed 15,000,000 postcards throughout the United States.

The Civil Air Patrol and the Boy Scouts of America have distributed the cards to colleges, high schools, theatres, department stores, and other places where former AAF men and women can obtain them conveniently.

General Spaatz, commanding general, of the AAF, explained that up-to-date addresses of all former personnel could be kept informed of the latest developments and plans of the Air Reserve program.

State election for 4-H youth

Nansemond County 4-H Council will elect and install officers in fall meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Holland High School. Mildred Jernigan, acting chairman, will conduct the morning and afternoon sessions.

Council is composed of all officers from the six 4-H Clubs in the county, who will be introduced by Home Demonstration Agent Margaret Rusher’s explanation of council purpose.

The following officers of each club will be trained: Presidents and vice presidents. By F. C. Moore.

Secretaries and treasurers, by Julia Ann Matthews, Drivers 4-H Club adult leader.

Reporters, by Mrs. Vernon Riddick, and June Davidson, Jr., Whaleyville and Holland club leaders.

Song leaders, by Margaret Rusher and Mrs. Floyd Darden, Chuckatuck 4-H leaders.

A model club meeting will demonstrate training measures. The Box Elder home demonstration club will serve lunch.

J. W. Rogers, district farm agent, will tell of the &uot;County 4-H Club Plan of Work,&uot; Four-H Achievement Day in December will be discussed.

County hearing tax reassessment

A number of people came in from Chuckatuck District and went away satisfied with new reassessment figures released by Nansemond County Board of Assessors now holding hearings on reassessment of all real property and improvements in the county at the county courthouse, Parker C. Brinkley, board chairman, said Thursday.

Hearings yesterday were limited to the district of Upper and Lower Chuckatuck. Further hearings for remaining districts and town of Holland will be resumed next Tuesday, Brinkley stated. Hours will be 9 a.m. to noon and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Besides Brinkley, Herman Presson and Edward Felton serve on the board.
