Lakeside resident finds that thieves have stolen her holiday decorations from her yard
By Jason Norman
Outside Susan Jones’ Causey Road home in
Lakeside stands a near-seven-foot inflatable Grinch. On Wednesday night, some real-life Grinches came to her home.
Two years ago, Jones purchased a blow-up figure of Santa Claus hugging a reindeer, similar to the Grinch she uses to decorate her front lawn for the holidays.
&uot;It was so popular with the kids,&uot; she said. &uot;Kids would come by to look at it, and parents would walk past with their kids and stop to see it.&uot;
At about midnight on Tuesday, Jones checked on her decorations and went to bed. The next afternoon, however, she discovered that someone had stolen Santa.
&uot;He was staked down with tent stakes, and they ripped those out and took him,&uot; she said. &uot;They even took the extension cord that lit him up.&uot;
Now, the neighborhood kids, including Jones’ two grandsons, are without one of their favorite attractions.
&uot;I have neighbors with large displays,&uot; she said. &uot;People put a lot of time and effort into them. I’m going to talk to some of them about their decorations to make sure that this doesn’t happen to them.&uot;
She also plans to take down the Grinch and Cat in the Hat figures in her lawn.
&uot;It’s not about the money,&uot; she said. &uot;It’s about the season. The kids (in the neighborhood) want Santa to come home and bring the reindeer with him.&uot;
A $50 reward is being offered. If someone has any information,
contact Jones at 934-1106 or the police department at 923-2350.
