A 61-year-old-man pedestrian struck by a container truck last week died over the weekend in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Walter Alvin Foreman Sr., who lived on South Sixth Street, died late Friday from injuries received in the Dec. 8 accident, said Lt. Debbie George, spokeswoman for the Suffolk Police Department.

Alvin Cordell Sessoms, 39, of Newport News, driving a truck owned by Disposal Hampton Roads Inc., was attempting to make a left turn from East Washington Street onto South 8th Street when he accidentally struck Foreman,

knocking him to the ground, George said.

Foreman, who had been crossing a field, had just stepped in the road as Sessoms was making the turn, she said. Sessoms told police he was unable to stop his vehicle in time to avoid the accident.

The accident is still under investigation, George said.
