Had the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy boys basketball team not scored a point for the last 14 minutes of their win over visiting Greenbrier Christian on Tuesday night, they still would have grabbed the victory.

Behind 21-20 with 5:24 left in the second quarter, NSA called a timeout. The Saints would hold their opponents to just 16 more points in a 63-36 defeat.

Kyle Jett started things off with a jumper, and Ryland Gwaltney broke away for a pair of layups to go up 26-21 with 4:19 to go. Jett and Adam Gillette scored in the remainder to end the half ahead 30-23.

The Saints were just getting started, as Jack Wright and Gillette scored in the first minute of the second half, and Jett rattled in seven points in 86 seconds for a 41-23 lead. Bryan Breedlove banked in a layup and Gwaltney a pair of free throws, and Matt Hamlet capped off the period with a three pointer for a 47-25 lead.

It must have felt good; Hamlet repeated the feat in the first 1:14 of the fourth, and Dan Byrnes followed suit with a long shot of his own, then snuck in for a layup. Devin Jesz hit a jumper and Nick Taylor knocked in the last four points to end the contest. The Saints visit Hampton Roads Academy on Friday.

Their female counterparts were even more successful, defeating the host Lady Gators 62-25. Michelle Boucher led the way for the Lady Saints with 15 points, while Parris Grieder knocked in 11 points and Ashlee Robb 10. The Lady Saints will face off with Hampton Christian at home on Friday.
