City taking 4-day holiday

Beginning today, Suffolk city employees will enjoy a four-day weekend in honor of Lee-Jackson and Martin Luther King Jr., both separate holiday observances.

City offices and libraries are closed today through Monday, Jan. 17. The city’s three major parks–Lone Star Lakes, Bennett’s Creek and Sleepy Hole-will be open on Saturday and Sunday.

The Suffolk Museum will only be open today during the holiday weekend, and the Health Department will be closed all four days.

The city observes all state-designated holidays, said city spokesman Dennis Craff. All state offices and parks are closed as well today and Monday.

Public Works will collect trash according to the following schedule:

nPickups for today will be collected Saturday, Jan. 15;

nBeginning Monday, residents will experience a one-day delay each day of the week.

Trash must be placed at curbside no later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection.
