Surry Nuclear Station saves Vepco customers $40 million
Operation of the Surry Nuclear Power Station saved customers more than $40 million during 1974, Virginia Electric and Power Company has reported.
John M. McGurn, Vepco chairman, said the two nuclear units at Surry provided .20 percent of the energy generated on the Vepco system, and the $40 million represents the net savings of nuclear power compared to fossil fuel generation.
In 1975, about 30 percent of Vepco’s generation is expected to come from nuclear power, resulting in even greater savings for customers, McGurn said.
The company also reported preliminary year-end figures for 1974 (before the effect of recording an accounting adjustment to reflect unbilled revenues applicable to prior years) that show operating revenues of $764,012,274 plus the recurring item of 24 cents reflecting unbilled revenues applicable to prior years.
