One day after their citymates got back on track with a decisive win over Hickory, Nansemond River kept up its hot streak against the visiting Hawks on Tuesday night, grabbing a 68-39 win for the Warriors’ fourth consecutive victory. After Durrell Skeeter scored 14 points to lead Lakeland to a 58-32 victory on Monday, Vaughn Wilson dropped in 24 and Keith Josey snared his 16th double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the Warrior win.

Wilson, who also led the team with six points and seven steals, and Josey combined for 11 points in the first quarter, but a pair of late three-pointers got the Hawks to within 23-14 to start the second. That’s when Wilson took control with seven points in 2:48 as part of a 15-0 run that gave the Suffolk team a 40-19 halftime lead, and the Hawks never got closer than 23 for the remainder.

The Warriors now face a pair of tough challenges, as Thursday they take on Great Bridge, whom they squeaked past 70-67 on Jan. 28, and go to Western Branch on Friday to face the team that defeated them earlier in the season.

Lakeland will also be looking to avenge an earlier defeat as they lock horns with host Deep Creek on Friday.
