Lakeland graduate Robert Hedrick moved to California over the summer for college – and he only had to go two states north!
Hedrick, who made the Second All-Southeastern District team as both a pitcher and shortstop last year, received the Blitzman scholarship, awarded to the top incoming athlete at the California University of Pennsylvania, 35 miles southwest of Pittsburgh. He plans to study to work at the National Hurricane Center in Florida.
In between classes, however, he’ll try to help the Vulcans to their second consecutive PSAC championship.
The team’s only Virginian, Hedrick, who also played varsity golf and basketball at Lakeland, will be one of three new additions to the team’s pitching staff and will also play the infield.
The team, which won a school record 32 games last year, opens the season at the Salem International on Feb. 19-20.
