Whatever offensive firepower Nansemond River was without in its 52-49 win over Oscar Smith in the Southeastern District tournament semifinals Thursday night, it was back on Friday – big time.

The Warriors broke open a close game in the tournament finals tournament on Friday night, charging to a 34-25 halftime lead over Indian River and hauling away to an 84-59 defeat, taking home their third consecutive tournament title and avenging the defeat the Braves handed them on Jan. 18. The win also avenged the Braves’ win in the 2001-02 tourney final, the last game there the Warriors have lost.

Keith Josey grabbed the tournament Most Valuable Player award, adding to his regular season honor, and brought in his 21st double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Vaughn Wilson, who made the All-Tournament team, led all scorers with 31 points, and Jerome Burgess added 10.

The Warriors will play their first regional game at home Monday against Denbigh. They’ve fallen in regional quarterfinal competition the past three years.
