Fund interest rate higher than stated

In an account of yesterday morning’s called meeting of the City Council, Suffolk securities salesman, Robert C. Wrenn, was reported as telling councilmen that his firm’s investors mutual fund has returned 4.5 percent over the past five years.

Yesterday afternoon, Wrenn said the percentage was incorrectly reported and that it should be 5.4 percent.

J. R. Dixon joins First Federal here

J. R. Dixon III, an employee of the Farmer’s Bank of Nansemond, joined the staff of First Federal Savings and Loan Association Monday.

He is an alumnus of V.P.I., and while in the service served with the National Security Agency.

Upon leaving the service he was employed by the Riggs National Bank of Washington, D. C., and for the past three and one-half years an employee of the Farmers Bank of Nansemond.

Dixon is married and the father of two children. The family resides in Eclipse.

W. C. Francis resigns Obici Credit position

W. C. Francis, credit manager at Obici Memorial hospital since 1954, has resigned and intends to enter private business, Administrator A. Gibson Howell announced today.

His duties will be taken over by administrative assistant Jack R. Hodge, who became a member of the hospital staff in 1960.

&uot;We regret very much that Mr. Francis has decided to leave,&uot; Howell said. &uot;He has been a valuable associate.&uot; Francis did not disclose his immediate plans. Before coming to the hospital, he was engaged in sales and insurance work.

Hodge, a native of Michigan, is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the Medical College of Virginia, where he received a master’s degree in hospital administration.

Game law changes

up for suggestion

The Virginia Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries will consider suggestions for changes in the hunting seasons and regulations for the 1962-63 hunting season at their next scheduled meeting in Richmond, March 30.

The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the commission conference room at 7 North Second Street Clubs, delegations or individuals having suggestions for the commission’s consideration are invited to present their views.

The commission will select tentative season dates, bag limits, and consider other related regulations at this meeting for all game species except migratory birds.

These proposals will be advertised in the press and final action will be taken at a subsequent meeting.

Seasons and bag limits on migratory birds will be selected at a later meeting after the season framework for the various states has been announced by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Red Cross drive results showing

The 1962 Red Cross membership and Fund Raising drive, in progress since March 1, is off to a fairly good start. First reports were made March 6 at campaign headquarters, East End Baptist Church.

According to co-chairmen, J. E. Jones and B. L. Davis Jr., many area captains did not report all. The second report made was March 13. Reports are to be made each Tuesday between the hours of 7 and 9 p.m. If any group organization or person is not contacted by a worker, the report can be made directly to drive headquarters.

A new future of the drive this year is the canisters that have been placed in all the business places in the city and county. Citizens are reminded to drop in a donation when they see these canisters.

The canisters were made by the Junior Red Cross chapters of Nansemond Training and East Suffolk High schools.
