Lakeland junior Raekwon Johnson was named Co-Offensive Player of the Year for the 2011 Southeastern District football season. Johnson passed, rushed, caught and returned fumbles for touchdowns as the Cavaliers went 7-4 and reached the Eastern Region Playoffs for the first time in program history.

Lakeland junior Raekwon Johnson was selected Co-Offensive Player of the Year and King’s Fork junior Charles Clark was the Defensive Player of the Year as the Southeastern District coaches decided their postseason football awards.

For guiding Lakeland from an 0-10 record last season to a 7-4 mark and the first-ever playoff season for Cavalier football, Glenwood Ferebee was the district Coach of the Year among the Division 5 schools.

Johnson was voted to the top team at “Utility back” as he played quarterback or running back, at whichever spot the Cavaliers needed him the most, during the season. Johnson scored touchdowns as a rusher, receiver, passer and from the defensive side off of turnovers as an inside linebacker. Johnson was named Second Team All-District at running back, one part of his “utility back” title.

King’s Fork junior Charles Clark was named the Southeastern District’s Defensive Player of the Year. Clark was selected to the All-District First Team at defensive back and Second Team at kick returner.

Johnson’s mate as Co-Offensive Player of the Year is Oscar Smith senior running back J.C. Coleman. Coleman has committed to a scholarship with Virginia Tech.

Clark, who will also return for the Bulldogs next season, made First Team at defensive back, specifically as a safety, and Second Team as a kick returner. He also was a rusher and receiver for the Bulldogs as a wingback on the offensive side.

Each Suffolk squad had at least one representative on the All-District First Team.

Nansemond River’s LaMont Brown was voted to the First Team at running back. Brown, a four-year starter for the Warriors, has committed to a scholarship offer from Morgan State.

NR’s Stevon Simms, who returned kickoffs for touchdowns in back-to-back games in the middle of the season, was the district’s top kick returner.

The Warriors improved from 1-9 in 2010 to 5-5 this season, claiming the Suffolk city crown with wins over King’s Fork and Lakeland.

Lakeland’s Anaquan Peterson was selected to the First Team at wide receiver and punt returner. Fellow Cavalier speedster Antonio Jefferson was named First Team at defensive back and Second Team as a wide receiver.
