Hazardous weather alert issued

A hazardous weather alert has been issued for the city of Suffolk through the night.
A cold front moving through the region is bringing moist and unstable air, according to the National Weather Service. It is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms, with isolated severe storms.
A tornado warning had been issued for the southwestern portion of the city at 11:28 p.m., but it expired at 11:45 p.m.
The main threat from the storms is locally damaging wind gusts, the National Weather Service said. Heavy rain also is expected, with more than an inch anticipated in some places.
