Katie DeVenuto drove in both runs as Lakeland took the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday, beating visiting Franklin 2-0. The Lady Packers took the second game, 4-3.
Ashley McCord led off the fourth with an infield single, and Erica Rimasse blasted a hard grounder up the middle for another single. DeVenuta bunted, and the throw went awry, allowing both runners to cross the plate. Lindsay Kelly struck out five in the win.
In the second game, McCord, Rimasse and Rachel Evans scored for Lakeland.
Leighanne Sexton and Megan Oliver scored three runs and batted in two more as King’s Fork charged away with a five-run second inning en route to an 8-4 defeat of visiting Oscar Smith. Nansemond River’s fate went the other way, as Hickory scored in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 win, the Lady Warriors’ first defeat. River hosts Western Branch Friday, with Lakeland hosts Deep Creek and Fork goes to Hickory.
