Two weapons were found at King’s Fork High School last week, thanks to the extra security crackdown at the city’s middle and high schools Wednesday.
A 15-year-old male was charged with carrying a knife onto school property after officials discovered a kitchen knife in his book bag, said Lt. Debbie George, spokeswoman for the Suffolk Police Department. The blade on the kitchen knife was about 3 inches long.
Authorities also discovered a paintball gun on the floorboard of an 18-year-old student’s car, she said. Further investigation showed that the girl had driven her mother’s car and that her brother had left the paintball gun in the vehicle.
No police charges were filed against that student, George said.
The school system beefed up security at the schools last Wednesday – the seventh anniversary of bombings at Colorado’s Columbine High School – after rumors of planned violence began circulating at Nansemond River High School and John Yeates Middle School.
