George A. Rountree Sr.

Chesapeake- Deacon George A. Rountree Sr., 81, of Chesapeake, died April 21, 2005.
He was a native of Suffolk, the son of the late Julius and Emma Rountree, and the widower of Georgia B. Rountree.
He was a faithful member of Cathedral of Faith C.O.G.I.C., where he served as a dedicated Deacon for many years before his illness. You could always depend on him in the church as well as outside the church.
Survivors include three sons; Julius Rountree (Georgia) of Portsmouth, William Rountree (Sharon) of Suffolk and Samuel Roundtree of Virginia Beach; three daughters, Ms. Lucille Rountree Hurst, Ms. Joyce Mosley and Miss Carolyn Rountree all of Norfolk; two brothers, Bishop Willie Dillard (Betty) of Union City, Calif., and Mr. David Barnes (Marie) of Suffolk; eighteen grandchildren, forty two great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his eldest son, Deacon George Rountree Jr., two brothers, Tom Elliot (Lillian), Sam Elliott, a grandson LeOtis Rountree, and a daughter-in-law Lorraine Rountree.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, at Cathedral of Faith C.O.G.I.C. 2020 Portlock Road, Chesapeake, with Dr. G. Wesley Hardy officiating. A viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. The burial will be at Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery, Suffolk.
The family will receive friends at the home of Ms. Lucille Hurst, 2517 Rush St., Norfolk.
