The Suffolk Blazers 2 AAU basketball team will be sponsoring a fundraiser at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, at Nansemond River High School.  The theme is "Praise Is What I Do," and will feature various choirs and praise dance teams from Suffolk. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door or in advance from any team member. The proceeds from this event will help the team travel to the Virginia State Tournament in Bristol May 13-15. Kilby Shores Spring Fling

Kilby Shores Elementary School will be hosting a Spring Fling from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, at the school. Pay $10 and ride all day. Plenty of games and refreshments.

Senior aerobics offered

Suffolk campus enrolling

The Virginia University of Lynchburg, Suffolk campus is enrolling for the fall semester, which takes place Aug. 30 to Dec. 13. The college is located at the Pleasant Union Baptist Church, 215 Webb St. Registration takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 n 9 p.m. through May 2. Programs offered include an Associate of Arts and Science degree, certificate in ministry, Bachelor of Arts in religious studies and a master's of divinity degree. Financial aid is available. Masonic Charity Ride

The 56th Masonic District is sponsoring a Charity Ride on May 7 for the Ronald McDonald House. The ride will start at the Virginia Beach Lodge #274 on 20th Street and Arctic Avenue, Virginia Beach. Registration will be held from 8 and 11 a.m. (1st bike out at 9 a.m.). The cost is $10 for riders and $5 for passengers. Donation items needed consist of household and kitchen goods. Obici Alumni raising funds

Every year the Louise Obici Alumni Association puts on a fundraiser to generate money for the Louise Obici School of Nursing Scholarship which is awarded to one or more deserving students, who are pursuing a special certificate, diploma, degree, or post-graduate degree in the nursing field. This year the membership has chosen to offer a Take-Out Barbecue Dinner. The dinner will consist of Carolina BBQ, baked beans, slaw, and a roll. The organization will also have a bke sle and bzaar, featuring desserts and handmade items.

The fundraiser will take place Saturday, April 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the north entrance of the Suffolk Christian Church on North Main St., Suffolk.

The BBQ dinners will cost $6 each, or 2 for $10.

Impact Suffolk

The citywide prayer meeting sponsored by Impact Suffolk will be held at Magnolia United Methodist Church, 1764 Wilroy Road, in Suffolk at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 27. Wakefield Foundation

The Wakefield Foundation Inc., Center for the Arts, will host its 17th annual Flower and Art Show on the evening of May 7. This year's show will feature the work of more than 50 artists, each artwork accompanied by a floral arrangement designed to produce a unified, harmonious display. The reception, open to the public, will start at 7 p.m. Admission at the door will be $10 per person. The reception will be catered and musical entertainment will be provided by Robin Welch, classical guitarist, an instructor at Hampton University.

From noon to 4 p.m. Family Day takes place Sunday, May 8 from noon until 4 p.m. Family Day is less formal than the opening reception and is designed to allow children and their parents the opportunity to view the exhibit together. A light reception will be served and admission will be $2 per person.

The local schools and groups have been invited to have their students tour the exhibition from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Monday, May 9.

The Flower and Art Show has been a yearly event for the Wakefield Foundation since 1988. Student, Professional and amateur artists are allowed to submit one work each to be included in the show. All media are acceptable and ribbons are awarded in various categories. In addition, a monetary Best in Show award is given.

Relay for Life teams forming

Volunteers are needed to form teams for the American Cancer Society's 2005 Isle of Wight Relay for Life. Delta Kappa Gamma to award scholarship

The Alpha Theta Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, is offering two $1,500 awards to two Suffolk high school seniors.

This award, known as the Gladys H. Yates Award, is given to honor the memory of Yates, a teacher who taught in the Suffolk Public School system for many years. Yates, a past president of Alpha Theta Chapter, made many contributions to education.

The applicant must be a senior from a high school within the city of Suffolk, accepted by an accredited college or community college, an honor graduate have a B average or 3.0 or above, planning to pursue a career in teaching and a resident of Suffolk.

The Three Wishes Inc. Program makes available to senior citizens and the permanently disabled power (electric) wheelchairs at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. The power wheelchairs are provided to those who cannot walk and cannot self-propel a manual wheelchair in their home, and who meet the additional guidelines of the program.
