Editor, the News-Herald:

In 1783 William Pitt, a British Prime Minister, said, &uot;Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.&uot;

This could apply to many things happening today; not the least of which is &uot;historical preservation.&uot; We have several important documents (The Declaration of Independence, The Bill of Rights and our Constitution) that guarantee us freedom to own property and use it to our advantage without someone telling us what color paint we can use or the kind of fence we can build or dictate any other way we must obey a self appointed &uot;do gooder&uot; group.

Everyone should reject the designation of their property or area as historical. If the historical preservation gang is truly interested in preserving something they should buy that property with their private funds and preserve it to their hearts’ content.

Stop trying to tell Anerican Citizens how they must manage their property to satisfy tyrants.
