The Suffolk Art League is celebrating its 35th anniversary with its annual juried exhibition.

More than 100 works were chosen for the show from among about 240 pieces in all mediums.

“The show has a great variety of work, but it’s all very high-quality work,” said Linda Bunch, the executive director of Suffolk Art League. “There’s a variety of mediums, a variety of genres and ways of working with art materials.”

The show offers $2,400 in prizes. The first-place winner gains the opportunity to have a one-person show at the gallery next year, in addition to a cash prize.

The show was juried this year by Amy Brandt, the McKinnon Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk.

“I’m seeing a lot of very interesting work,” Brandt said during her judging at the gallery on Tuesday. She just moved to the area from New York.

“I’m delighted to participate in the exhibit here, and I’m eager to get to know all of the artists in and around Hampton Roads,” she said.

The show includes a wide variety of mixed-media, photography, painting, pottery and other types of work.

The grand opening of the exhibit will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the gallery, 118 Bosley Avenue. The exhibit will be on display through Dec. 21.

The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, call 925-0448.
