Man charged in relation to officer involved shooting

SUFFOLK – Suffolk Police advise that Anthony Bonds, 27, of Norfolk, has been charged in relation to an incident that occurred on January 28, 2025.

Bonds has been charged with Attempted Murder, Possession of Firearm by Felon, Abduction, Shooting into Occupied Dwelling, Use of Firearm in Commission of Felon, Strangulation, Destruction of Property over $1,000, Aggravated Malicious Wounding,  Brandishing a Firearm, and Reckless Handling of a Firearm.

He is being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.

Suffolk Emergency Communications Center received a call for a person with a weapon Jan. 28 at 6:55 a.m. in the 100 block of S. Lloyd St. Suffolk Police Officers arrived on the scene to discover an adult male who sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound as a result of an altercation with a known offender. The offender fled the scene on foot.

At 8:29 a.m., Suffolk Emergency Communications Center received a call for a suspicious person in the nearby area that matched the physical description of the offender. Suffolk Police arrived to the 700 block of Nixon Drive where they located the suspect, who again fled on foot.

While attempting to take the suspect into custody, officers discharged their firearms, striking the subject. The injured individual received immediate medical attention from Suffolk Police until the arrival of Suffolk Fire & Rescue, who then treated the subject on the scene before transporting them to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The involved Suffolk Police Officers have been placed on administrative leave pending a criminal and administrative investigation.
