Fire damages portable classroom at Northern Shores Elementary School

Suffolk Fire and Rescue battle an early morning fire at a Northern Shores Elementary School portable classroom.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue crews were dispatched to the school at 4:55 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, where crews found heavy smoke from the single-story, detached portable classroom. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, bringing it under control at 5:37 a.m.
According to SFR, the structure sustained significant fire and smoke damage, but no other buildings were affected. The fire occurred after hours, so no injuries were reported.
Suffolk Public Schools personnel are on site coordinating daily activities. No delays in the school’s opening have been reported.
The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office.
