James L. Moore, age 77, of Albany, GA passed away peacefully. He was born in Richmond, Va. and grew up in Suffolk, Va. before moving to Southwest GA and enjoyed a life filled with family, passion for his work, and dedication to his community.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Jack Moore and his brother Walter H. Britt, III. He is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Linda E. Moore; sons Jon Moore (wife Middi) and Jason Moore (wife Katie); and grandchildren Jack Moore, Parker Moore and Ellie Moore. He is also survived by his brother Thomas J. Moore, cousin Nancy T. Mathis and a host of extended family and friends who cherished his warm, engaging spirit.
Jim devoted 40 years to the peanut industry, where he earned respect and admiration for his leadership and tireless advocacy. He was a key figure with the American Peanut Council, serving on the Board and holding officer positions. Notably, Jim was Chairman of the National Peanut Council from 1985-1987. During his tenure, The Peanut Research Foundation was incorporated to support the industry’s research and innovation, a legacy that continues to this day. He was also a dedicated member of the American Peanut Shellers Association and the Peanut and Tree Nut Processors Association, where his contributions to industry initiatives, including The Peanut Institute, helped shape the future of the peanut industry.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Jim had a deep love for life. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and collecting antiques—passions that brought him great joy. His ability to balance a successful career with his personal interests made him a beloved figure among family and friends alike.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a future date to be determined. Details will be shared with family and friends soon.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Peanut Research Foundation 1500 King St, Suite 301, Alexandria, VA 23314 in honor of Jim’s lifelong work and passion for the peanut industry.
Jim’s legacy of service to his family, friends and the peanut industry will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. He leaves behind a profound impact on both his family and the industry he loved.
