Roadway Information

In anticipation of the inclement weather, Suffolk Public Works Department began loading and brining operations on bridges, elevated roadway surfaces and primary roads. As the snow starts, staff will spread salt and sand to get a base layer down over the snow. Staffing will consist of 24 hours a day, 12-hour shifts to begin Friday into Sunday morning to begin addressing roadway conditions which include spreading and plowing operations.

As a reminder, the Roadway Division of Public Works is responsible for clearing snow and ice from Suffolk public streets. With safety and emergency accessibility being the primary concerns, priority is given to all primary or main roadways, followed by secondary arterials and connectors.

During inclement weather conditions, drivers should exercise caution in their driving by driving alert and attentive, keeping their speed down, allowing a safe distance from the vehicle in front of them and avoiding sudden directional changes.
