Discarded BBQ coals spark house fire in Suffolk

According to Suffolk Fire and Rescue, a Suffolk home caught fire after discarded barbecue coals ignited a garbage can Sunday, Dec. 29. The fire spread to a fence and the side of a two-story detached home on Coltrane Ave. Emergency crews responded to the fire at 6:10 p.m. and arrived at the scene at 6:16 p.m., finding active flames. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze by 6:21 p.m., preventing it from spreading inside the home. Although the exterior siding and a Dominion Power meter base were damaged, the home’s interior remained untouched. No injuries were reported, and the residents were not displaced.
