Elsie Mae Baines Brinkley passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024 after many years of battling cancer. The daughter of the late Edward L. Baines and Minnie Baines Robertson, she lived her entire life in Suffolk, Virginia. Elsie was a graduate of Suffolk High School, class of 1958. A year later she married the love of her life, J. Marvin Brinkley who predeceased her in 1993. Elsie worked many years at Bank of Suffolk and left banking to focus on her passion, antiques. Along with Marvin, they owned and operated Nansemond Antique Shop for over 30 years. After retirement she enjoyed spending time in her happy place, Kill Devil Hills, NC where she loved sitting on the beach, spending time with family and friends, and shopping.
Elsie is survived by her daughter Nancy Brinkley Savage and granddaughter, Kelly Savage Knight and her husband, Matthew Knight.
The family would like to thank the staff of Lake Prince Woods Healthcare where she has resided for the last few years, MEDI Hospice (especially Kendra), Dr. Christopher Dowd and his nurse, Liz, who have all been our rock. Additionally, a special thank you to Renell Smith for your almost daily visits, updates, and kindness during this time. As hard as this time has been each of you have played a vital role in helping each of us and we will be eternally grateful.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at Holly Lawn Cemetery with Chaplin Gary Newsome officiating. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Post condolences on parrfuneralhome.com.
