Javon Ford II, the standout running back from Kings Fork High School, officially signed to play football at Towson University on the NCAA’s first signing period of the 2025 recruiting cycle on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
The signing ceremony, held at the high school, was a celebration of Ford’s achievements and a testament to his dedication, hard work, and the profound impact he’s had on the school’s football program.
Ford says his success on the field was not all “God-given” and credits his father with helping him reach this point.
“Being with my dad, he really brought me to the young man I am today,” Ford said following the ceremony. “I feel like everything I have is worked on, it’s not really just God-given to me.”
Ford’s high school coach Anthony Joffrion spoke highly of the 6’0” senior, emphasizing his character beyond his athletic prowess.
“He is way more than a football player. You know, he’s a great human being,” Joffrion shared with an audience of friends, family and teammates, highlighting Ford’s work ethic, humility, and the positive influence he has had on shaping the football program.
Joffrion, who became head coach at King’s Fork when Ford was a freshman, recounted their shared journey.
“He was [one] of my first guys. He started all four years for me,” he said, reflecting on their four-year record of 43 wins and only seven losses. This success, he believes, is a direct result of the mindset Ford brought to the team from his freshman year.
During the 2024 regular season, Ford rushed for 950 yards and 12 touchdowns on 95 carries, while also recording 12 catches for 145 yards and a touchdown. Near the end of the season, Ford made his presence felt on the defensive side of the ball also. This versatility and on-field presence made him a sought-after recruit, drawing interest from several major programs.
Ultimately, Towson stood out for their consistent support and the opportunity to make an early impact.
“They really loved me since day one. So, the big opportunity I have playing earlier there, you know, just doing what I got to do, put my numbers up, [and] go on from there,” Ford explained, emphasizing his eagerness to contribute immediately.
When asked about the recruiting process, Ford acknowledged the complexities of the current landscape with the rise of the transfer portal. However, he remained focused on what he could control.
“All I can do is control what I can control,” Ford said.
The excitement for the next chapter was palpable in Ford’s words. When asked what fans could expect from him at Towson, he confidently replied, “Same gameplay. Even better. Even better.” His mindset upon arriving on campus? “Ready to work. Day one. Ready to work.”
Ford’s influence extends beyond his on-field performance. He played a pivotal role in transforming the culture at Kings Fork, a school historically known for its basketball program. Ford’s success and the team’s winning seasons have put King’s Fork football “on the map.”
The signing ceremony was filled with emotional moments, with Ford’s father offering words of encouragement and pride.
“Anything is possible,” he said, reminding his son that “there are no limits and there are no boundaries and there are endless possibilities.” He urged Ford to stay focused, live his dream, and remember that “He’s always first.”
Ford’s signing with Towson marks the beginning of a new chapter in his football journey. With his talent, work ethic, and the unwavering support of his family and community, Ford is poised for a bright future. As he embarks on this next level, the King’s Fork community and his former coach will be watching eagerly, ready to witness his continued success on the college gridiron.
Ford is likely not the last Bulldog to sign during this recruiting cycle.
