Nansemond River High School swept the top individual honors in Class 5 field hockey, with senior Anyia Woods earning Player of the Year and head coach Alison Dize claiming Coach of the Year. The Virginia High School League announced the awards as part of its 2024 Class 5 All-State team release. This marks the first time in school history that Nansemond River has taken home both awards.

A two-time first-team and two-time second-team all-state selection, the ultra-talented Woods totaled 20 goals and added 21 assists this season for the Warriors. The University of Iowa commit has amassed 57 career goals and 37 career assists. Over the past two seasons, the senior captain produced 41 goals and 30 assists, leading the Warriors to the state this season. Max Field Hockey named her to its Top 50 Class of 2025 player rankings. A member of the U19 U.S. Women’s National Indoor team, she was selected to play on the USA team vs. Canada series last March.

Dize guided Nansemond River to a 20-2 record and the school’s first-ever state championship with a 2-0 win over First Colonial in the Class 5 finals. In her 15 seasons as head coach, she owns a 191-69-3 career record. Over the past four seasons, her Warriors have been 108-11-1 and have made three VSHL state final four tournament appearances, including a state runner-up in 2022. The state COY in 2022, Region 5B, named her COY the past three seasons.
