According to Suffolk Police, a Suffolk woman sustained minor injuries after the car she was driving was struck by a train Friday morning, while a juvenile passenger was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred at approximately 9:26 a.m. in the 400 block of Bank Street. The adult female driver was treated and released at the scene.
The Suffolk Police Department determined the vehicle was crossing the railroad tracks as the crossing arms were descending, leading to the train striking the rear of the vehicle. Charges are pending for the driver.
The railroad crossing at Bank Street and Moore Avenue was closed for about an hour following the crash but has since reopened.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Suffolk Police Department or the Suffolk Crime Line. Tips can be submitted online at www.p3tips.com, through the Suffolk Police Department’s Facebook page, or by calling 888-LOCK-U-UP.
