After provisional votes were counted and posted Tuesday evening, incumbent Mike Duman still holds on to a 161-vote lead over Clinton Jenkins. This mayoral race is the closest since Suffolk began electing a mayor in 2012, according to Virginia Department of Election data. With more than 53,000 ballots cast, the 2024 race also has the largest turnout of the previous three elections.

The latest update on the Virginia Department of Elections website around 8 p.m. on Tuesday shows Duman with 34.86% of the vote and Jenkins carrying 34.55%, well within the range for a recount, should either candidate make such a request.

The third candidate for mayor, David Bosselman holds 30.27% of the vote.
