Bulldogs and Warriors begin playoff runs, potential region semifinal showdown looms

The VHSL announced its playoff pairings Sunday, and two Suffolk teams, King’s Fork and Nansemond River, are poised for a rematch in the VHSL Class 5 Region B semifinal. But first, they will have to get past Menchville and Bethel, respectively.
The King’s Fork Bulldogs, the No. 2 seed in Region B, capped off a 9-1 regular season, with its only loss coming on the road against the Class 6 Region A top seed, Oscar Smith. The Bulldog offense averages 41.6 points per game, while their stingy defense surrenders a mere 12.1 points a game. The Bulldogs will host the No. 7 seed Menchville Monarchs (5-6) in the Region Quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m.
The Nansemond River Warriors enter the playoffs as the No. 3 seed in Region B after finishing the regular season with an 8-2 record, with losses to potential semifinal and crosstown opponent, King’s Fork and Class 6 Region A top seed, Oscar Smith. The Warriors balanced offensive attack, averaging 34.6 points per game, while their defense allowed 17.6 points a game. The Warriors will host a rematch against the #6 seed Bethel Bruins (7-4) in their Region Quarterfinal matchup on Friday, Nov. 15. Nansemond River defeated Bethel 46-14 in its first contest of the 2024 campaign.
