Former NSA Saint and James Madison running back George Pettaway was recognized on the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll following his performance in the Dukes’ victory over Southern Miss, the Louisville Sports Commission announced Tuesday.

Pettaway had a career day in JMU’s 32-15 win over Southern Miss, turning in his first career 100-yard rushing game. He finished the game with a career-high 119 rushing yards and a touchdown on 16 carries (7.4 avg.).

 The Suffolk native added a pair of receptions for 34 yards and 27 yards on kickoff returns to finish the day with a career-best 180 all-purpose yards.

 The win clinched bowl eligibility for the Dukes (6-2, 2-2 SBC) for the first time, as they will compete in bowl season for the second straight season in 2024.

 The Paul Hornung Award, presented by Texas Roadhouse, is now in its 15th season and given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission.

 A national selection committee comprised of 17 sports journalists and former NFL stars votes for the Paul Hornung Award winner. A fan vote makes up the 18th vote to help decide the winner.

This is the second time a JMU player has been honored on the Hornung Award Honor Roll, as Kaelon Black was recognized on Sept. 27, 2022, after JMU’s first Sun Belt Conference win at App State.
