SUFFOLK – Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the 1200 Block of Portsmouth Blvd for a reported commercial building fire. Emergency Communications dispatched the incident at 2:39 p.m.
First on scene crews arrived at 2:44 p.m. to find multiple brush fires that were caused by downed high voltage power lines. Further investigation found that a tractor trailer near the intersection of Portsmouth Blvd and C Street had contacted the power lines causing the pole to break and the lines to be pulled from the pole. Dominion Energy responded and secured power to the area so that crews could continue extinguishing the fire. The fire was marked under control at 3:01 p.m. and the scene was turned over to Dominion Energy. The fire did not extend into any buildings and there were no reported injuries.
