According to a media release. Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to a residential structure fire on the 100 block of North 9th Street late Monday night. Emergency Communications dispatched the call at 10:43 p.m.

Arriving at 10:47 p.m., crews encountered heavy smoke and flames emanating from a one-story home. The fire was visibly venting from both the side and rear of the structure, threatening a nearby residence.

Firefighters quickly deployed an initial attack hose line, preventing the blaze from spreading to the neighboring home. Additional hose lines were used to suppress the fire. A search of the structure was conducted, and the fire was brought under control by 11:05 p.m.

The fire caused extensive smoke and fire damage throughout the house. While thermal damage from the heat affected the neighboring home, the fire did not extend to the structure.

Four adults and two children have been displaced due to the fire and are currently receiving assistance. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
