The Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts will host a new art exhibition, *Colors of Royalty*, from Sept. 26 through Oct. 26, 2024. This gallery show features regional artist Clayton Singleton alongside over thirty talented artists, exploring how colors and visual symbolism represent varying definitions of wealth and status across different cultures and communities.

Visitors are invited to the free opening reception on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m., to view the artwork and meet the artists. The exhibition prompts questions about which colors evoke a sense of importance and regality, both in art and nature. Featured works include a self-portrait in traditional pink Korean Hanbok, a mixed media piece of a monarch butterfly, and a gold sculpture representing a last kiss.

Singleton, a prominent figure in Hampton Roads, will showcase eight of his signature paintings, including the acrylic work “American Royals.” With over 25 years of artistic experience, he focuses on West African Adinkra symbols and Black identity in his work.

The exhibition also includes two special events: a children’s book signing and cultural experience with author Kimberly Ellis on Oct. 5, and a gallery talk with Clayton Singleton on Oct. 17.

The Suffolk Center’s galleries are free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., located at 110 W. Finney Avenue, Suffolk.
