Contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) Interchange Improvements Project are scheduled to implement long-term, continuous single-lane closures on Route 58 east and west, from the Route 58 median crossover at the SPSA entrance (Bob Foeller Drive) to just west of the weigh station, through approximately spring 2025.
According to VDOT, beginning as early as Sept. 24, crews will begin implementing the continuous single-lane closures in each direction along the outside lanes of Route 58. To safely implement these closures, two lanes will be closed each night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., until the long-term right-lane closures are in place. Later in the project, the continuous single-lane closures will move from the outside lanes to the inside lanes.
This project is designed to improve safety on Route 58 by constructing a dedicated flyover ramp for eastbound traffic traveling to the SPSA entrance at Bob Foeller Drive. It will replace the existing at-grade median crossing and eliminate crossover traffic conflicts with westbound traffic.
Motorists are advised to drive cautiously and stay alert for construction vehicles entering and exiting the work zone. All work is weather- and schedule-dependent, so the schedule is subject to change.
